Hi all,

Haven't had much time to think about the new talents, but anyone want to list what they're thinking of trying out at lvl70 and then through to 80?

I don't like pvp and would like to stick to fire if poss. I'm debating trying this for lvl 70, though it may be a bit too heavy on mana: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=oZ0EcbRhIuVubhcbMGc0o

Or maybe this: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZ0EcbRhIuVubhcd to exchange icy veins for clearcast and living bomb.. or this variant with impact instead - http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VcZ0EcbRhIuVubhc

Better get saving - can see going to be spending a lot of money switching back and forth the first week! :)

For leveling, I might switch out some fire talents for blizzard, chill effects, and shatter as its easier.

Might try this at 80: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=of0ic0 ... RhIuVubhct

Or this one: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=oZ0EcbRhIuVubhcxMIccoc (misses living bomb to get mana savings)

The new scorch is going to be interesting. No longer damage increase (rats), it does now appear to increase anyones spell crit chance, so whole raid should love us.

if i return to Wrath i will try deep frost with some fire,or whatever.Havent though much about it,or will go with fire.I'll just pyroblast>fireball>scorch>fireblast and the fucking mob is dead.No seriously i will try something like deep frost with fire.I have the feeling that elementalist builds will be modern. The winter chill increase the crit strike of both fire and frost and scorch increase not only fire damage, but also frost. So elementalist......deffinetely.Also water elemental gives mana regen. With Wrath of the lich king many combinations will be possible, unlike before

Indeed, which is why I'm interested in what exactly people are thinking of trying. Frost certainly looks viable, if you like frost, and probably quicker than fire for leveling. Scorch has been changed now unfortunately so it doesn't increase damage, but instead increases crit on all types of spells (including shadow etc). Nasty blizz have made it not stack with winters chill though, so taking both will be redundant. Which does free up talent points for other nice stuff. The free pyro talent will be fun, provided you can get timing right. Anyone know a way in combat log to make it highlight the spell line in a different colour when it crits??

On PTR i have to say Mage is now my FAVORITE dps class, the new arcane talents are soo fun! I tried all three specs, and while i liked deep fire, its disapointing that our living bomb isnt another SoC and can only be applied to 1 target, and frost for its high burst damage, there is NOTHING like firing 5 arcane missiles in 2 seconds! Its DPS is MUCH more than that of fire/frost overall, i would do a rotation of blast, blast, blast, missiles, and 50% of the time my missiles would be 2 second casts, doing around 2.5k dps and with my rotation of blasts around a steady 2k dps, and thats at level 70!

Therefore - here is the build i used: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basic ... 0000000000

You've already got AoE spells, and instant cast ones at that.
Why would you want a seed of corruption? =P

The talent changes mean I'm going to have to respec my Mage as well. But, they're only on level 32, so not much will have changed really XD

Going to try out 11/50/0 and 0/50/11 initially for the remainder of 70, but if arcane starts looking much better I'll grit my teeth and switch to that. Would try 10/51, but apparently living bomb at the moment can only be on a mob once so if another mage casts after you it wipes yours, and I can see this happening :)

There's no new spells as such at level 70 other than new ranks of fireball and frostbolt. Will have a look in a bit and see onwards to 80 as memory not working. In terms of talents theres a fair few. Worth having a quick look at some of the talent calculators such as wowhead.

New talent spell rotations:
1) Looks like good arcane rotation atm is Arcane Barrage, Arcane Blast, and Missile Barrage on procs. If anyone has found different and has a better rotation post it in.
2) Fire I haven't finished playing around with yet, but (and those who hate theorycrafting leave the building - I find it saves time) scorch stack, fireball, fireball if no HS proc, pyro if proc, then fireball again. I did try the alternative scorch/fireblast rotation and it was a bit lower. Throwing the odd fireblast into the first sequence seemed to help HS procs, but mana was yuck.
3) Arcane/Fire - No idea yet, not seen many people try this one. Suggestion is Arcane Barrage, Fireball, Missile Barrage on proc
4) Frost - anyone got any thoughts?

ATM I'm playing around with fire specs - the 0/50/11 and 11/50/0 ones. Tried the former last night on the target dummies and wasn't immensely impressed. Going to try 11/50 and maybe 10/51 tonight, though lots of people seem to be thinking living bomb is a pain in the neck at 70, requiring lots of concentration to keep it up along with everything else. I like easy, cos my reaction times are poor - someone faster might be happy with it, provided noone else in raid is specced for it :)

For those interested, sample specs for those at 70 are as follows - variation on all three is to put one more point in world of flames for the pyro crit and dump blastwave. Haven't tried that yet:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oZ0EMbohIuVubhcxMGc0o
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0V0zZ0EMbohIuVubhcx
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZ0EMbohIuVubhct

Anyone tried frost yet as a raiding spec? And I'll then try arcane since greywarrior liked it so much :)

Post subject:  Re: Patch/Wrath specs

Tried 11/50 last night on BT and it wasn't so good. Comparing with others who've used it I think my problem was partly my crit is currently too low (everyone else raving about this spec had an unbuffed crit of at least 35%) and partly because I forgot to change focus magic target when my target went offline

Will probably try arcane on the next raid, as noticed other mages on 0/50/11 whilst higher than me weren't hugely higher - suspect same crit issue applies. Highest mage was supergnome using arcane spec, which may be better in these weird days of rapid instance runs.

There's a frost spec that people seem to have liked that might also be worth trying - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0f0zZZVIccofu0f0gfox. Rotation is very simple - frost bolt, frost bolt, fireball when talent procs. However, again those using this had high crit - well over 35% base.
