After seeing the dps differences on Festergut the other day, I think I should go into what you guys can do to reach those same numbers I do. I don’t want to be the only green at the top of the dps meters!! :P

Don’t waste GCD’s and Auto shots

I can’t stress this point enough! If you spam your keys and use your highest dmg shots when they are off cooldown and never stand there idle (for 0.0001 sec or more), u are already doing pretty good, this is much more important than to have a “perfect” rotation. (Go watch the Kripparrian video one more time ^^)

Plan your movement, if you know u have to move try to do it while your instant casts are off cooldown, this way you don’t lose any dps. Watch your auto shot bar, and make a 0.5sec stop to let it go off if u can. (Quartz is great for this) Disengage is also very good to use to cover ground, but just be aware that if you use it to get out of a damaging aoe the game will still register u standing in the aoe when u are in flight.

Use everything you got

Make sure that you and your pet get all the buffs available, use AGI food if you are AGI geared or ARP food if u prefer that, AGI/ARP and INT elixir is a bit more DPS than the AP flask, (if u are ARP geared you should defiantly use the elixir to get as close to 1400 arp as u can) you can go to http://www.femaledwarf.com and test what is best for you in the current gear and spec. Never eat from that stupid fish feast, take 5 min every week to farm some useful food buffs.
Use the new arrows and bullets; they are a much bigger DPS increase then taking flask and food buff!

Use your cooldowns early in the fight so u can use them again later, I usually start a boss fight like this: Misdirection and Hunter’s mark before pull, prepot, (I use potion of wild magic, before pull and usually a haste or mana potion in mid fight.) as soon as the tank run in I send my pet to attack, then I get serpent sting up, chimera shot, aimed shot, then I use rapid fire and readiness, then a chimera and aimed again. I then use my 2nd rapid fire when the first drops off. I use an addon to monitor my internal cooldowns on trinkets and other abilities and power aura to show when they proc, this way I know if I should save my rapid fire, pot etc.

You want a wolf as your pet in all spec’s its even best DPS for BM, simply because of the Furious Howl that’s gives you and your pet 360 AP for 20 sec. I just have this on auto cast but if you got death verdict or a similar trinket with 45 sec ICD that gives u ARP/crit/haste its better DPS to wait the 5 sec and stack them every time, but only if u can do this successfully. u want to save Call of the wild and use it with heroism simply because it got a 5min cooldown and a long uptime, try to stack it with some trinket procs too if u can.

Another useful thing to know is that all the +% DMG increase buffs in the game (like the 2pc t10) and +crit effect (if u have the 2pc t9) will keep effecting your serpent sting if your use chimera shot to keep rolling it on the target. So what I do (if the fight is long) is reapplying SS when I see my t10 proc. So my base SS DMG will be higher. This is ofc not recommended in fights were its hard to keep rolling serpent sting on the boss with chimera.

Icecrown Citadel – Specs

When u get more and more ICC gear with ARP and a high ilvl ranged weapon marksman scale a lot better, so eventually I think we all have to switch to this. I’m sorry to all your survival hunters, but this is just the fact. If I switch back to survival now I lose 3103 DPS on the spreadsheet. (I do 8339.04 as SV and 11442.94 as MM) some of this loss is ofc due to the fact that I have the wrong gems etc, so I would prob say a 2k loss, and that’s a 20% loss!

So how do you play marks u ask? It’s a lot to explain so it’s good for me that there are other great hunters out there who writes guides all the time. Go and take a look at the new guide by Caleb, Marksmanship in ICC. Or the guides at http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com or his guides on wow.com on how to do the Plagueworks bosses as a hunter. The recourses are endless if you just look around a bit. And don’t forget the macros I have posted.
AND PLS POST QUESTIONS IF SOMETHING IS UNCLEAR, I’m not the authority on anything, but hopefully I’ll be able to help.

If you still want to play survival and want to make the best of it, I would have a look at this article about explosive shot by Garwulf from huntsmanslodge.com.

Icecrown Citadel - Gear

Use http://hunterloot.com together with http://www.femaledwarf.com import your settings and find out what the Best in Slot gear obtainable for u are, then go out and get it. I always start with the Boe gear. The new crafted boots are just too awesome to not get strait away and only cost about 10k gold (even cheaper now), which is very cheap for a BiS item, at least when u can easily make 20-50k gold a week (see Kripparrian's gold video). I’m planning to have some competitions in the near future, were they prices will be GOLD, so lookout for that.

The 2pc T10 bonus is just great! You want try and get 2pices as soon as u can. But think about what pieces that are best for u, as u want to keep your 2pc t9 bonus as LONG as you can! This is a very good set bonus for MM, (better than the 4pc t10) if u want to know more u can listen to the hunterpartypodcast from a few weeks ago were they discusses it in depth.

As marksman it’s all about armor penetration, if the gear piece doesn’t have ARP on it, u doesn’t want it! That’s just how it is. This means scarifying a lot of hit rating on gear, atm I have 3 points in Focused Aim and use a 20 hit gem to get capped.

If you still struggle to get close to the armor penetration hard cap (1400), u should use a trinket like Mjolnir Runestone, to get (soft) capped. Make sure u have an addon to monitor when it’s going to proc, so u can use some other cooldowns with it.

PLS POST YOUR COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS IF YOU GOT SOMETHING TO ADD OR GOT ANY QUESTIONS!

HAPPY HUNTING!

How dare you keep me busy so many hours a day trying to up my dps!?!
Guides like this make me spend even more time theorycrafting and experimenting...
Every time I think Im out... they pull me back in...

Seriously tho, great post as usual. We dont often take a moment to show gratitude for the work that goes into these things.
Thank you Tom.
