Post subject:  Shadow Priest

Since we dont have any recent threads about shadow priests and how to best dps in wotlk i'll start one, not that I got alot of experience yet, but been in a few runs and i would like to share what worked best for me. Please give comments!

Addons:
Good addons are essensial for a shadow priest to do good dps. altest for me, it so much to keep track of.. For my shadow priest i use, Quartz, Quartz_LatencyMF2, TellMeWhen, NeedToKnow and ShadowGreenLight
Image
Here is my setup, easy to keep track of all my dots and cd, SGL tells me if I needs to refresh SW:P on the target for more crit and Quartz_LatencyMF2 tell me when i should clip the MF for max dps useage.

Rotation:
(bosses/sigle target mob)

Shadow Priests dont have a set rotation so you have to go by priorety. (i'll come back to staring rotaion)

Pri 1. Keep Vampiric Touch up (this should never drop from your target, better to cast is one sec early then late)
Pri 2. Use Devouring Plauge the sec its off cd
Pri 3. Keep Shadow Word: Pain up
Pri 4. Use Mind Bast Whenever it is off cd, (clip mf ftw)
Pri 5. Mind Flay FTW :)

If you look at recount after a fight, The ticks of sw:p should never be more than 5% of VT and DP. So if sw:p ticks 287 times, VT and DP should atlest tick 273+ times. the closer u can get to the sw:p numbers the better rotation you are doing.

For my sartup rotation I do, VT, DP, MB, MF3, SW:P, I use sw:p last cuz i want my Shadow Weaving up to 5 before casting it and this should also give other raid members time to cast there dots on the target, (u may have to recast it later some ppl are slow getting there dots up :P but SGL will tell u if that is so)

Specs:

Atm I use 14/0/57 its a very good mana regen spec, i put 2 points in improved VE to top overhealing done :P I guess u can put them in Shadow Reach or something if u want.
And about Dispersion, is it usefull?
Quote:
I disagree regarding dispersion. The damage reduction is actually quite meaningful. It's true that 95% of the time you need to use it for the shield, someone has failed. But that person might not have been you. Maybe you legitimately took some spike damage because of how the encounter works and the healers simply failed to heal you.

Besides, who here actually plays perfectly? I know I don't. The purpose of any talent is the same-- to turn wipes into boss kills. Dispersion isn't useful in the fights where everything goes well, but you were going to kill the boss anyway. It helps a lot when something goes wrong, and that's the time you most want to prevent a wipe. The talent is definitely weak, and I agree with Snowy that its +30% health restoration should be reinstated, but it's still worth spending one talent point.

Hi tom :), thanks for this post, its a great addition to the forums, also note its worth re-buffing your dots if you get a spell power increase proc from a trinket or etc. Make sure your SW:P goes up after you have recieved the most buffs to your spell power.

From reading elitist jerks just a minute ago it suggested that spell power procs will affect ur SW:P without recasting, it's just the crit things and shadow ewaving that get 'locked in' at cast. Therefore no need to recast for sp procs.

Oh that's intersting I will look into it, I guess its relatively new with the dot changes. Also another good addon is Forte, it was designed for locks(origionally) but now there is a version for every class, its quite helpful, but not as easy on the eyes as the addons above, but once you get used to it, its very nice...
