I guess i have to act as a helper for any shammies we have here.

So dont hesitate to ask anything, prefer in this forum cause i cant be online off-raid hours much.

I'll be watching the dps/healing/aggro meters for every shammy we have so please, make me proud. (seems i dont have much to do as our most active shammys are Lexie and............ well, atleast Lexie.... and me)

Well in that case, do YOU know how to set up omen for use with healbot, so you can see when you're generating too much aggro? :)

I can't find anyone who knows what setting to use, and it seems very different from what I use with Ash (select main tank target, select single target mode on omen, fire at will). Not that I generate much aggro at all on Saiph atm, given my pre-kara gear, but it has been known.

Omen and healbot are different addons, theres no link between em. Best to use em right next to other and keep the tanks target targeted (if you're assigned to one) and keep an eye out for omen. Reality with healing is that you should never get aggro and thats the tanks job, healing does only half the aggro compared to dmg so you should be ok with aggro anyway. If you get aggro you're making a big heal too early and critting with it. Or theres a allknowing druid tank who thinks its fun to tank 12 mobs at the same time in a heroic.

Healbot does make your chars name highlighted when you get aggro tho, i think you can change the colour from skins tab.

Cant remember what char you have but i suppose you have a hot, put that up always before pull so it will count as tanks healing aggro. Start with low heals or downranked ones, theres your aggro reduce. If you have a shammy, use small heals in hope for the armor buff for tank first AND use healing totem, thats a good way to reduce your healing need as shammies have no way to reduce own aggro other than put down stoneclaw or earth elemental. (for elemental to work its best to make a macro for targetting it and throwing a small heal) The SL trink off second boss is a good way to reduce aggro also (if your +healing can afford to use it), i use it whenever i heal with enhance build (the exalted one off COT)

Im not sure im answering the right question, its way too hot in here and im way too tired to think. Just love to type.

Yeah, the problem I seemed to have was when there was lots of mobs and I was raid healing with chain heal - couldn't work out how to set omen so I could see when I was generating threat on other targets other than the main tank target. Which happened I think, as I got thumped a couple of times.

Anyway, another rather basic (stupid) question from a novice healer - what % health do you guys start healing on? None of the guides I've read give a clue for shammy i.e, do you immediately start casting chain heal the moment the tank/raid/whoever starts losing ANY health, or is a general rule of thumb to wait until 75% or something? Or does it just vary so much there is no rule of thumb :) At the moment I'm leaning towards immediately starting casting something once hp start to drop, but I guess I may be overreacting a bit and wasting mana.

As a rule for all healers its better to overheal than underheal.

Imo there's no such thing as too much overhealing as long as you don't go oom. If you go oom you need to do less overheal or have better mana management. But i tend to heal some1 when i know most of it is going to be effective heal. Ie. I won't use my 2k flash heal when some1 has lost 500 health. I might stick a renew on em to be safe, but i guess shammys dont have that option

When you're in a raid, usually you have the naaru hot up for pulls, put that on the first aggroer and build up from that. Also its best not to use top rank chain heal from start. Actually i dont use top rank chain at all, it uses too much mana to be efficient. 1 rank lower will do. Tho for you, best to use top rank and make up the lost mana with pots.

In general, use single low heal at start (usually you can start when tank gets first hit as others have hots on him) if the hot is on cd, then when others start to get dmg switch to chain. Your MAIN heal is chain but its mostly useless if only 1 is taking dmg, remember that. I use lower heal rank that gives around 1.6-2k heal, more than that goes to overhealing. Spamming very low rank heal (0.8-1k) is one tactic if you want to give tank the 25% armor buff. Tho your finger is going to hurt after that. Most mana efficient single target heal is downranked big heal by far.

For buffs, best to put water shield on it and monitor while in combat so you have it up all the time.
